FT232R

The FT232R is the latest addition to the FTDI family of USB UART interface ICs. The FT232R is a USB to Serial UART interface with optional clock generation outputs and the new FTDIChip-ID™ security dongle feature. In addition, both asynchronous and synchronous bit-bang interface modes are available. The USB-to-serial design using the FT232R further simplifies the integration of external EEPROMs, clock circuits, and USB resistors onto the chip.

Compared to its predecessor, the FT232R adds two new features that effectively make the chip a “3-in-1” chip for certain applications. The internally generated clock can be removed from the device and used to drive a microcontroller or external logic. A unique number (FTDIChip-ID™) is burned into the device during manufacturing and can be read via USB, forming the basis of a secure dongle that can be used to protect customer applications from being copied.

The FT232R is available in lead-free (RoHS compliant) compact 28-pin SSOP and QFN-32 packages.

Enabling faster and higher capacity data transfer than ever before, the FT60x is FTDI's first generation SuperSpeed USB3.0 family of chips to provide USB access to a wider range of data-intensive graphics and data acquisition applications.

The series consists of two devices - the FT600 and FT601, which feature SuperSpeed USB 3.0 First-In-First-Out (FIFO) bridges that provide up to 5 Gbps of bandwidth. The FT600 is packaged in a 56-pin QFN package with a 16-bit wide FIFO bus interface, while the FT601 is packaged in a 76-pin package with a 32-bit wide FIFO bus interface.

Both chips support up to 8 endpoints, and 2 communication endpoints, and allow up to 4 data and 4 data channels to create dual buffer lengths of up to 4K byte inputs (IN) and 4K byte outputs (OUT).
